You Don't Have to Carry the Suffering of the World
Jun 30, 2026
Today, we have access to more information than any generation before us.
Within minutes, we can read about wars, natural disasters, violence, political conflict, economic uncertainty, and the pain of people living on the other side of the planet.
Naturally, our hearts respond.
Little by little, we begin carrying a weight that was never ours to carry.
Perhaps where we have gone wrong is not in recognizing that there is suffering in the world, but in the way we have been taught to relate to it.
Our elders carried a very different understanding; one that didn't ask them to become indifferent, but taught them how to remain deeply compassionate without losing their own peace.

The Suffering That Doesn't Belong to Us
One of our elders would often remind us that as human beings, we carry many things that simply don't belong to us. One of those things is the suffering of the world.
Of course we want peace. We want people to be well.
We wish there were no wars, no violence, no suffering.
But our elders taught that life on this Earth is, by its very nature, a dual experience.
There is beauty. And there is difficulty.
There is harmony. And there is conflict.
As far back as we know, the history of humanity has always included both.
Conflict has been part of our journey of learning.
Spirit knows what it is doing, even with chaos.
Accepting this doesn't mean we agree with suffering. There are many things we may never agree with. But accepting life as it is allows us to stop fighting reality and begin relating to it with greater consciousness.
Instead of asking why the world is the way it is, our attention returns to a different question:
Where has life placed me?
What is my role in creation today?
Because perhaps my role is not to transform the whole world.
Perhaps my role is to recognize the place where life has naturally asked me to serve.
Serving From Peace, Not From Fear
When we recognize our place, something beautiful becomes possible.
We pray for those who are suffering.
We send them our love.
We help if and how we can.
And then we place it all in the hands of the Great Spirit.
One of the greatest shifts in consciousness is realizing that we do not have to become the savior of the world.
The Great Spirit is already present within every experience.
Every person is walking the path they need to walk.
Every challenge carries its own medicine.
This doesn't mean we stop helping others. Life is designed through service.
But there is a profound difference between serving from love and serving because we believe the world depends on us.
One comes from peace.
The other comes from fear.
When I look honestly at my own life, I can see that the moments I once wished had never happened became some of my greatest teachers.
Those difficult experiences humbled me.
They made me stronger.
They helped me recognize what is real.
If that has been true in my own life, I can trust that the Great Spirit is also walking with every other human being through their own journey.
And realizing this doesn't remove compassion. If anything, it deepens it.
Because compassion no longer comes from trying to rescue people.
It comes from honoring their path with dignity and trusting that Spirit is also walking with them.
Becoming a Healthy Cell
This changes our relationship with the world's suffering.
Instead of becoming consumed by it, we become available to serve.
Our elders taught that in the midst of darkness, the best thing we can do is turn on our own light.
THAT is our place.
✔️ To become a healthy cell within the greater organism that is humanity.
✔️ To cultivate peace where we are.
✔️ To love our family well.
✔️ To strengthen our community.
✔️ To serve the people life has placed in our life without neglecting our own wellbeing.
Because our well-being is not separate from the healing of the world.
Our well-being is the greatest contribution we can make to it.
A SEED TO CARRY
Pray for peace.
Send your love.
Do what is yours to do.
And let the Great Spirit carry the rest.
