Prayer: A Simple Path Back to the Heart
Oct 04, 2025
Twelve years ago, when Alex and I first met, prayer became the foundation of our relationship. I was living in the U.S., he was in a small town in Colombia. He didn’t even have a visa to visit me. I had just graduated university with my whole life ahead of me, and honestly, neither of us knew how our relationship could possibly work out.
So, we prayed.
We prayed for clarity, for guidance, and for the beautiful possibility we felt in our hearts. And today, more than a decade later, here we are—with two beautiful kids, living between Colombia and the U.S., grateful to God. Truly, our life is the product of a prayer.
Last week, I wrote about my Vision Quest experience and how prayer was my lifeline through that ceremony. Every time I made a sincere call from my heart, I received an answer.
This week, I want to share more: what prayer really is, and why it’s one of the most powerful practices we can carry.
THE ESSENCE OF PRAYER
Prayer is not bound to religion. It is a natural instinct of the human spirit.
It’s the bridge between our smallness and our greatness. Between the ego and the heart.
Our ancestors knew this. They discovered that everything first exists as vibration before it materializes. Because of this, prayer became a natural part of daily life—not out of fear or obligation, but as a conscious way to align with the higher order of creation.
Prayer is remembering we are never alone. It is the conscious act of communication with life itself.
The elders gave us a simple formula: “a beautiful thought from the heart.” If a vision feels peaceful and beautiful, it’s from your heart; that is the magic.
The key that unlocks it all is Humility.
Not shrinking yourself, but remembering we are an expression of the Creator. An instrument of Spirit.
When we pray with humility, we do our part by offering our sincere intention, and then we let Spirit guide the rest.
As the elders say: “serene and detached.” This is the posture of prayer.
WALKING OUR PRAYER
Our ancestors have shared with us that prayers are to be walked.
- If I pray for peace, I must also notice the ways I feed chaos or worry.
- If I pray for clarity, I must be willing to quiet the noise and make space to listen.
Walking the prayer means aligning our daily steps with what we’ve asked for—while still trusting Spirit to move it in ways we cannot control.
It is both surrender and participation. A way of saying:
Here is my heart. I trust You. And I am willing to live in harmony with what I’ve prayed for.
A SEED TO CARRY
Invite prayer into your life in whatever way feels natural.
It could be a traditional prayer you grew up with, or a simple call to the universe:
“If something hears me, please help me. I want to feel your love.”
For us, even though our spirituality has grown beyond its Catholic roots, we still pray the Lord’s Prayer every morning and night. We pray for our relationship, our kids, our loved ones. And in those small, daily acts, we remember: there is a greater power guiding it all.
